Exhibition in Hanoi, Vietnam (2024)

I had the privilege of making a unique projection mapping room for visitors of The Children’s Book Exhibition: THE FAMILY, held at the Vincom Center for Contemporary Art (VCCA) in Hanoi. The exhibition was the first of its kind in Vietnam featuring over 100 children’s books celebrating family relationships, complemented by installations, interactive zones, and reading areas. The event was a huge success and widely covered on national broadcast channels.

My role in the exhibition was creative consultant and animator for the immersive room titled “My Most Beloved Things” – the centerpiece of the exhibition.

My task was to transform illustrations from two books, “Mommy’s Heart” and “Daddy’s Hand” by author Hoài Anh and illustrator Đậu Đũa, into a captivating multi-sensory animated film. This immersive experience allowed visitors to explore a child’s magical world, where simple family moments were beautifully portrayed.

The interactive elements allowed children to engage with the film, such as popping on-screen bubbles or interacting with real bubbles discreetly released in the space.

Working with an almost 10k resolution video (9885×1150) is challenging, especially since the original artworks by illustrator Đậu Đũa were all physically hand-drawn in a significantly different ratio. The making of the artwork required close collaboration between me and the team, and the scanned artwork needed to be reconstructed in Photoshop where elements were separated, filled and extended.
